Dunfermline's Central Heating Engineers

Heating a Dunfermline home is not a one-size job. A flat in the town centre, a 1960s semi in Abbeyview and a four-bed in Duloch all need different boiler sizes, radiator outputs and controls to run efficiently through a Scottish winter.

We are central heating specialists, not a general trades company. Our Gas Safe registered engineers design, install, upgrade and repair complete systems, from the boiler and pipework through to the radiators and smart controls. Every system is sized properly, flushed properly and registered properly.

Worcester Bosch 12-Year Guarantee

Most heating engineers can install a Worcester Bosch boiler. Only Worcester Bosch Accredited Installers can register the manufacturer's full 12-year guarantee on top of it.

The accreditation is awarded to the company, not the individual. We are one of a small group of accredited installers in Fife.

What you get with an accredited install:

  • 12-year guarantee on the Greenstar 8000+ Style fitted with a Greenstar System Filter
  • 10-year guarantee on the Greenstar 4000, 7-year on the 2000, 5-year on the 1000
  • Manufacturer training kept current at the Worcester Bosch Academy
  • Genuine Worcester parts on every install, with full Benchmark commissioning
  • Direct technical support from Worcester for the boiler's lifetime

Central Heating That Fits Your Dunfermline Home

Dunfermline's housing stock is not uniform, and the right central heating system changes street by street. We work in all of them.

Town centre, Limekilns & Charlestown

Pre-1919 stone properties with solid walls and original chimney breasts. Heat loss is higher, so radiator outputs need sized correctly. Usually a system boiler with an unvented cylinder for two or more bathrooms, or a powerful combi where pressure allows.

Abbeyview, Townhill, Pitcorthie & Pitreavie

Post-war semis and terraces, often with microbore pipework that needs upsizing for modern boilers. A system upgrade with new rads, new pipework and a new boiler usually delivers a noticeable bill drop.

Duloch, Masterton, Halbeath & the Eastern Expansion

Post-1999 new builds, mostly with Ideal Logic combis or system boilers and unvented cylinders. We see plenty of warranty-end replacements here, so we know the common faults and carry the parts.

Crossford, Cairneyhill, Carnock & Saline

Mixed stock with some properties off the gas grid running on oil or LPG. We can design and install gas, oil, LPG and air source heat pump systems.

Rosyth, Inverkeithing, North Queensferry & Dalgety Bay

Mostly post-war and modern stock with mains gas, similar profile to the Eastern Expansion.

Whatever you have, the design starts with a heat loss calculation, not a brochure.

How We Install a Central Heating System

A new central heating system is a serious bit of work, and the difference between a good install and a cheap install shows up three winters later. Here is how we do it.

  1. Free home survey. We come out, measure up, look at your existing pipework and ask how you actually use the heating. About 45 minutes on site.
  2. Heat loss calculation and system design. Every room is measured for heat loss. Radiators are scheduled to match. Boiler size is calculated to actual demand, not guessed.
  3. Fixed-price quote. Written quote with the boiler model, radiator specs, controls and timeline. No verbal numbers, no surprises.
  4. Installation. Like-for-like swap takes 1-2 days. Full system upgrade with new pipework and rads runs 3-5 days. We protect floors and run the heating off a temporary feed where possible.
  5. Power flush and inhibitor. Required on every install to protect the new boiler and unlock the extended Worcester guarantee.
  6. Commissioning. Set to a flow temperature of 50°C or lower with a 10°C differential, in line with the Scottish Building Standards Compliance Guide.
  7. Handover. Boiler registered with Worcester Bosch, Benchmark logbook completed, controls walked through, first annual service booked.

Indicative pricing:

• Like-for-like combi swap: from £1,995 fully fitted

• Full new central heating system: £4,000 to £7,000

• Free home survey and fixed written quote within 2 working days

Central Heating Dunfermline FAQs

The questions we get asked most about new central heating systems, upgrades and full installs. If yours is not here, drop us a message and we will get back to you.

How much does a new central heating system cost in Dunfermline?
A full new system with boiler, radiators, pipework, controls and commissioning typically lands between £4,000 and £7,000 for a three-bed house, and £3,000 to £4,500 for a two-bed. Like-for-like combi swaps start at £1,995 fully fitted on our Worcester Bosch Greenstar 1000 package. Every quote is fixed-price and written down before you commit.
How long does a central heating installation take?
A like-for-like combi swap is one to two days. A boiler conversion (regular to combi, or relocating the unit) takes two to four days. A full new central heating system with new radiators and pipework runs three to five days, sometimes longer in larger properties.
Do I need a combi or a system boiler?
A combi suits most Dunfermline flats and smaller homes with one bathroom and decent mains pressure. A system boiler with an unvented cylinder makes more sense for larger homes, two or more bathrooms, or where two showers are likely to run at once. We confirm which is right after the heat loss calculation, not before.
Can you fit central heating in an older stone property?
Yes. Many of the homes in Dunfermline town centre, Limekilns and Charlestown are pre-1919 with solid walls. Heat loss is higher, so radiators need to be sized accordingly and pipe runs planned to minimise disruption. We work in listed and traditional properties regularly.
Do you replace radiators and pipework as well as the boiler?
Yes. On a full system upgrade we replace whatever is needed to make the system run efficiently. Old microbore pipework, undersized radiators and corroded valves are the three most common upgrades that pay back in lower bills.
Will you need to lift floorboards?
Often, yes, where pipework is being re-run under timber floors. We agree the route with you before we start, lift carefully, and refit. We do not damage finishes if we can possibly avoid it.
Do you do first-time central heating?
Yes. If your home has electric storage heaters, an old back boiler, or no central heating at all, we can design and install a complete wet central heating system from scratch. This is one of our most rewarding jobs because the difference in comfort and running cost is dramatic.
Can I get a grant for a new central heating system in Scotland?
Standard gas and oil boilers do not qualify for grant funding in Scotland. The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan provides up to £7,500 grant plus up to £7,500 interest-free loan towards an air source heat pump, with a rural uplift raising the heat pump grant ceiling to £9,000 in remote rural and island areas. The English Boiler Upgrade Scheme does not apply in Scotland. We can advise on heat pump eligibility during your survey.
Do you do underfloor heating?
Yes, both retrofit and as part of a new build. Wet underfloor heating runs at around 35°C compared to 70°C for traditional radiators, which makes it a strong match for heat pump systems and a real money-saver if you are renovating a floor anyway.
How long does a new central heating system last?
A well-installed and annually serviced system typically lasts 15 to 20 years. The boiler usually has the shortest lifespan at 10 to 15 years, while radiators and copper pipework can last 20+ years if the system water is kept clean with a magnetic filter and inhibitor.
Are you a heating engineer or a plumber?
Heating engineer. We do not fix taps, toilets or shower trays. Gas, boilers, radiators, pipework, controls and heat pumps. Specialists, not generalists.
What areas do you cover?
Dunfermline (KY11, KY12), all Fife KY postcodes (KY1-8), South Queensferry (EH30) and Winchburgh / Broxburn (EH52). Daily in Dalgety Bay, Rosyth, Inverkeithing, Kirkcaldy, Lochgelly, Burntisland, Glenrothes and Cowdenbeath.
