Every review you see here is from a real Fife customer. Here's why.
Your own power, lower bills, less from the grid
Solar panels turn daylight into free electricity for your home. Here is what that actually means for a household in Fife.
Lower electricity bills
Every unit you generate is a unit you are not buying from the grid, and Scottish electricity prices are among the highest in the UK. The more of your own power you use, the less you hand over to your supplier each month.
It works in the Scottish climate
Panels run on daylight, not heat, and are more efficient when it is cool. Research from the University of Edinburgh found a typical system here generates only about 13% less over a year than the same system in London. Fife is no different.
Better still with battery and a heat pump
Solar is good on its own and better as part of a system. Add a battery to store what you generate for the evening, and a heat pump to run your heating on your own power. As a local heating specialist, we can bring the whole package together for you.
What solar really costs in Scotland
There is a lot of confusion about this, so we would rather be straight with you. There is no grant for solar panels or battery storage in Scotland at the moment. Home Energy Scotland stopped funding them in June 2024, and the £7,500 grant you may have read about is for heat pumps only.
What does help is real and worth having: no VAT on the work until March 2027, and getting paid for the power you generate but do not use. We will give you a clear, honest figure for your home at the survey.

VAT on your install
No VAT on solar panels or battery storage until 31 March 2027, saving around £700 on a typical installation.
For what you export
Your supplier pays you for the power you generate but do not use, through the Smart Export Guarantee.
Going solar, four simple steps
No pushy sales visit and no guesswork. Here is exactly how we take you from first enquiry to the day your panels start generating.
Request a survey
Tell us a little about your home and your preferred day. We get back to you to arrange a free survey at a time that suits, with no obligation.
Home survey
We check your roof, its orientation and any shading, and look at how your home uses electricity. This is what a proper, MCS-standard design is built on.
Design and fit
You get a system sized for your home and a clear written quote. Once you are happy, most installations are completed in a day or two.
Switch-on and aftercare
We commission the system, register it for export payments, hand over your MCS certificate, and your local Dunfermline team is here for anything after.
Solar panel questions, answered
The things people in Fife ask us most often. If your question is not here, just get in touch.
Yes. Panels run on daylight, not heat, and they are actually more efficient when it is cool. Research from the University of Edinburgh found a typical system here generates only about 13% less over a year than the same system in London. Fife gets plenty of usable daylight across the year.
No. There is no grant for solar panels or battery storage in Scotland at the moment. Home Energy Scotland stopped funding them in June 2024.
The £7,500 grant you may have read about is for heat pumps only. What does help with solar is 0% VAT until March 2027, and getting paid for the power you export.
It depends on the size of system your home needs, your roof, and whether you add a battery. Rather than quote a misleading one-size figure, we give you a clear written price after a free survey, with an honest estimate of what you could generate and save. Request a survey and we will talk you through it.
Not at all, panels work perfectly well on their own. A battery simply lets you store the power you generate during the day and use it in the evening, instead of exporting it cheaply and buying it back at a higher rate. Many people add one for that reason, but it is entirely your choice and we will explain the trade-off honestly.
Most home installations are completed in a day or two, depending on the size of the system and whether a battery is fitted. We agree a date with you in advance and tidy up properly once the work is done.
Yes. When your panels make more than your home is using, the surplus goes back to the grid and your energy supplier pays you for it, through the Smart Export Guarantee. We register your system for it as part of the handover.
The installation is carried out by our trusted MCS-certified electrical partner, and the whole project is managed end to end by The Heat Network. You get specialist solar installers doing the work, with your local Dunfermline team looking after you before, during and after.
Very little. There are no moving parts, so once they are fitted they largely look after themselves. Scottish rain keeps them clean for the most part, and we will show you how to keep an eye on performance through your inverter or app.
