Refrigerant circuit checks
Pressures and temperatures read across the circuit, and a leak check on the sealed system. F-Gas work, and legally an F-Gas certified engineer's job.
Outdoor unit clean
Fins, fan and coil cleared of leaves, grass and dust. A blocked coil is the most common reason a heat pump stops performing in Fife.
Condensate and drainage
Tray, drain and pipework cleared and checked. A frozen condensate on a heat pump causes ice build up and lockouts.
Water side and pressure
System pressure, expansion vessel, pump and magnetic filter checked, and the filter cleaned.

Why a heat pump needs servicing every year
A heat pump runs for far more hours a year than a boiler does, at low output, through Scottish winters. Manufacturers require an annual service to keep the warranty valid, and most of them ask for it to be recorded.
There is a performance reason as well. A heat pump only saves money if it is running efficiently. A dirty coil, a low refrigerant charge, a blocked filter or a flow temperature left too high all push the running cost up quietly, month after month, without the unit ever breaking down. A service finds those.

Qualified for heat pump work
Heat pump servicing is not boiler servicing with a different badge. The refrigerant circuit is sealed F-Gas work, which by law only a certified engineer can touch, and the water side needs someone who understands low temperature heating rather than a boiler at 70 degrees.
We hold F-Gas certification and the BPEC Level 3 heat pump qualification, as well as Gas Safe registration, unvented hot water and the water regulations. That means one visit covers the heat pump, the cylinder and the heating system, rather than three trades.
Home Care for heat pumps
The Home Care Heat Pump plan is £18 a month and includes your annual service, so the warranty stays valid and nothing gets forgotten. Join when you book a service and your first service is half price at £105.
It works the same way as our boiler plans: one monthly payment, the service booked automatically each year, and your records in the customer portal.

Why has my heat pump stopped heating properly?
Commonly a blocked or dirty outdoor coil, low refrigerant, a dirty filter or flow temperatures set wrong. A service finds all of those. If it has stopped altogether, book a repair visit.
My heat pump is covered in ice. Is that normal?
A light frost that clears is normal, because the unit defrosts itself. Thick ice on the coil or filling the base tray is not, and usually means a drainage or defrost fault that needs looking at.
Do you install heat pumps?
Not at the moment. We service and repair them, and we will tell you honestly if the system you have was undersized or badly commissioned in the first place.
Do you service the hot water cylinder too?
Yes. We are qualified on unvented cylinders, so the cylinder and its controls are part of the same visit rather than another trade.
Are there grants for heat pumps in Scotland?
Home Energy Scotland offers grant and loan funding toward heat pump installation. The scheme changes, so check the current terms on their site rather than relying on a figure quoted elsewhere.
