Smart Thermostat Installation in Inverkeithing
Hive or Tado supplied and fitted from £282 inc VAT, booked online. Gas Safe registered engineers wire it to your boiler properly and set up the app before we leave, in Inverkeithing.
What a smart thermostat does
A smart thermostat lets you run the heating from your phone, set a schedule that matches how you actually live, and stop heating an empty house. Turn it up on the way home, down when you go away, and see what the heating is doing from anywhere.
We fit Hive and Tado, wire them to your boiler properly and set up the app with you before we leave. If your boiler is a combi, the control is fitted to the boiler’s own terminals so features such as load compensation work as they should. With a hot water cylinder, we fit the version that controls the heating and the hot water separately.
Every new boiler we install already comes with a wireless thermostat. A smart control is the upgrade on top, and can be added at installation or any time after.
Inverkeithing is a few minutes from our Dunfermline office, and we fit smart thermostats in the town’s flats as well as its houses.

Hive or Tado
We fit both. Which one suits depends on how your heating is set up and how you want to control it.

Hive Heating and Hot Water
A thermostat on the wall, a receiver wired to the boiler and a small hub plugged into your router. Control the heating, and the hot water if you have a tank, from the app, with schedules, a boost button and holiday mode.
Best for: most homes, combi or cylinder. Hive Multizone adds a second thermostat for houses with the heating split into two zones.
Tado
A smart thermostat that learns how your home heats up and can turn the heating down when everyone has gone out, using the location of your phones (some Tado features need a Tado subscription). Smart radiator valves can be added later for room by room control.
Best for: households who come and go at different times, and anyone who wants room by room control in future.
Either way the job ends the same: the thermostat fitted and wired, connected to your Wi-Fi, the app and schedule set up with you, and the old control removed.
Smart thermostat prices
One price for each control, supplied and fitted, so you know the figure before we come out. Tell us whether you have a hot water tank when you book and we bring the right version.
| Control | For | Price inc VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Hive Heating and Hot Water | Heating, and hot water if you have a tank | £282 |
| Tado | Heating, with smart radiator valves available to add later | £282 |
| Hive Multizone | Two thermostats for a house with two heating zones | £392 |
Prices include the thermostat, fitting, wiring to the boiler, Wi-Fi and app set up, and showing you how it works. Needs a broadband connection.
What happens on the day
The engineer checks your boiler and wiring, fits the thermostat where it reads the room properly, wires the receiver to the boiler and connects everything to your Wi-Fi. Then we set up the app on your phone, put in a heating schedule that suits you, and show you how to use it.
The old thermostat or programmer is removed, and the boiler is tested so you know the heating and hot water respond to the new control before we leave.

Frequently asked questions about smart thermostats in Inverkeithing
How much does a smart thermostat cost?
Hive Heating and Hot Water or Tado is £282 inc VAT, supplied and fitted. Hive Multizone, with two thermostats for a house split into two heating zones, is £392 inc VAT.
Will a smart thermostat work with my boiler?
It works with most modern boilers. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the boiler and your current thermostat on WhatsApp and we will tell you which control suits it before you book.
Does it matter if I have a hot water tank?
Yes, it is the one thing we need to know. With a combi boiler there is no tank and the thermostat controls the heating. With a hot water cylinder we fit the version that controls the heating and the hot water separately.
Do I need Wi-Fi?
Yes. The thermostat connects to your broadband so you can use the app. Hive uses a small hub and Tado a small bridge, both plugged into your router, and we set them up when we fit the thermostat.
Will a smart thermostat save me money?
It can, by not heating an empty house and by making it easy to turn the heating down from your phone. How much depends on how you use your heating now, so we do not promise a figure.
How long does it take to fit?
It is done in one visit. We fit the thermostat, wire it to the boiler, connect it to your Wi-Fi, set up the app and the schedule with you, and show you how it works.
Can you fit one when you install a new boiler?
Yes. Every new boiler we install comes with a wireless thermostat, and a Hive or Tado smart control can be fitted at the same time as an upgrade, or added any time after.
What is Hive Multizone?
Two Hive thermostats for a house whose heating is split into two zones, usually upstairs and downstairs, so each can run its own temperature and schedule.
Do I need a Home Care plan?
No. A smart thermostat is a one-off job booked online. A Home Care plan covers your annual boiler service and, on some plans, repairs to your controls.
Do you cover all of Inverkeithing?
Yes. We cover the whole of Inverkeithing (KY11 postcodes), along with Rosyth, Dalgety Bay, North Queensferry and Hillend. Enter your postcode when you book online and you will see the slots available.
Does a smart thermostat work in a flat?
Yes. It works the same in a flat as in a house, as long as there is a broadband connection for the hub or bridge. Most flats run a combi boiler, so it is the heating version we fit.
Homes and heating in Inverkeithing
Inverkeithing is one of Fife’s first royal burghs, and its old centre has been a conservation area since 1985.
The old burgh
High Street, Bank Street and Church Street have historic buildings in harl, sandstone and rubble with slate and pantile roofs. On listed buildings, and front walls in the conservation area, a new flue position can need consent, which we check before any boiler is replaced.
Tenements from the bridge era
The town grew quickly after the Forth Rail Bridge opened in 1890, and tenements went up to the south of the town until 1914. We service and repair boilers in flats as well as houses.
Newer housing
Later homes were built at Spittalfield, Fraser Avenue, and more recently Hillfield, Back o’ Yards and Spencerfield, with every age of boiler between them.
